$350,000 raised in CORSO appeal
The amount received to date in CORSO’s World Family Day appeal has reached $350,000, bringing the organisation’s total income for the year to July 1 to $515,000.
The chairman (Mr J. B. Brown) said that contributions to the appeal were still being received. Donations would continue to be sought during the rest of the year. “There has been considerable controversy about some aspects of what was thought to be a change in CORSO’s prime objects,” said Mr Brown. “However, it is, clear that the majority of the New
Zealand public understand that relief, rehabilitation, and development through overseas aid remain paramount.” The Prime Minister (Mr Kirk) said he was very pleased with the public response to the appeal. He was pleased that the sum raised was at least on a par with last year and that the public had shown it shared his faith and trust in CORSO’s continuing ability to put money, materials, and people where ! they were needed. “The Government puts great store in this work and in the CORSOs ethics,” he said. “Our interest in the organisation is underlined by the fact that all its books are subject to Government audit.” Mr Kirk said that CORSO was playing an important part in New Zealand’s foreign relations. Some of the appeal money will go to rural development in Sri Lanka, Indo-China, Korea, Thailand, and the South Pacific. There will be continued aid for droughtaffected areas of the Sahelian belt of Africa.
