Born in Dunedin, she was educated at the Convent School, Gore. In April, 1941, she formed the Catholic Women’s League in Timaru, and became the league’s first president. She was re-elected president 25 years after the formation of the league. Mrs Peacock joined the South Canterbury branch of the National Council of Women in April, 1942, as the delegate for the C.W.L. When she became president — from 1961 until 1964 — she represented the Save the Children Fund as a delegate. In August, 1973, Mrs Peacock was awarded honorary life membership of the branch — the first time in more than 15 years that the branch had conferred such an honour. While president of the National Council of Women she was on the steering committee of the South Canterbury Savings Bank. She is survived by her husband, two daughters — Mrs J. Cotterell (Nelson) and Mrs P. L. Lyons (Christchurch) — and one son, Brother H. Peacock, S.M., of Wellington.
