Big vote against amalgamation Th* Mackenzie County has decided not to amalgamate with the Geraldine and Levels Counties. The decision had been overwhelmingly against the amalgamation, said the Mackenzie County chairman (Mr J. L. Austin). More than 90 per cent of the electors had registered their votes. Th* County Clerk (Mr B. J. Dwyer) said that a majority had been against amalgamation in all five ridings. In total, about 71 per cent voted against amalgamation. Voting in the various ridings was:—Albury, 97 for amalgamation, 113 against; Fairlie, 53, 187; Opuha, 57, 104; Tekapo, 67, 134; county town, 85, 349.
