Teachers to work again

The first tutors from the Christchurch Technical Institute to be granted industrial refresher awards, were announced last evening. The new industrial refresher awards, approved late last month by the Government, will enable selected tutors to return to industry and commerce on full pay to study new techniques. The scheme has the support of the Federation of Labour, the Manufacturers’ Federation, the Employers’ Federation, the Technical Institutes Association, and the Association of Teachers in Technical Institutes. Christchurch people awarded the refresher leave are:— Mr D. E. Lewthwaite (chemistry), Mr F. L, Bridley (fitting and turning), Mr F. C. Hickey (motor engineering), Mr G. E. Burton (graphic design), and Mr A. G. Elliott (carpentry).
