Railwaymen to meet

The Canterbury branch executive of the National Union of Railwaymen has bowed to pressure from its members to hold a special meeting to discuss last Wednesday’s 24-hour stoppage. At a meeting in Christchurch yesterday morning members presented a petition to the executive calling for an explanation of the executive’s endorsement of the stoppage after the members had overwhelmingly voted against it. No date has been set for the meeting but it is likely that it will be held in the workers’ own time.
