OBITUARY Miss M. Paul
Miss Mary Paul, who was! well-known throughout New Zealand as a successful participant in “King of Quiz” contests in the 19505, died recently in England. Miss Paul was on the staff at Rangi-Ruru School for 30 years. She joined in 1926 was appointed first assistant in 1949 and was acting-prin-cipal for a time in 1951. Born on the Isle of Wight. England, Miss Paul read' English at St Hugh’s College, Oxford, in 1915. But at; that time degrees were not granted to women at Oxford, [ although they were allowed to take all degree examinations. .In 1920, when Oxford changed this policy, Miss Paul took her B.A. at the first graduation .ceremony at which degrees 'were conferred on women.* She graduated M.A. in absentia in 1928. Miss Paul is survived by a sister in England, Miss Ines Paul.
