GIBSON CHOSEN AS CENTRE
(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright; PRETORIA. The Scot, A. Irvine, will make his first appearance on the wing for the British Lions in the tourists match against Northern Transvaal today. Irvine, although top scorer on the tour, with 78 points, has been consistently overlooked at full-back for the
first choice, J. P. R. Williams.
With the Welsh fly-half, P. C. Bennett, injured, several changes had to be made. A surprise was that the Irishman, C. M. Gibson, has no', been chosen to fill the fly-half berth, where he had such an outstanding match against Griqualand West on Wednesday. IRISH COMBINATION Instead, the Lions have decided to play I. McGeechan at fly-half, with Gibson partnering his Irish colleague, R. Milliken, at centre. Despite the switches, the side can be considered a test XV. It includes only three players who have not played in the first two tests on the tour. And one of these is Gibson. The England flanker, A. Neary, will have another chance to play himself into the test side in the absence! of J. F. Slattery.
