E.E.C.: ‘No cheap beef for Russia’
(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) LONDON, July 5. The European Economic Commission has vigorously denied that it is planning to sell stockpiled beef to the Russians at “sale” prices. The denial was made in Brussels on Wednesday in the face of French reports that the Russians wanted 50,000 tons of cheap beef. New Zealand has just sold Russia a large quantity of mutton.
Last year the Commission came under heavy criticism for the sale of 200,000 tons of surplus butter to Russia. The Commission said that it would not take any
measures to allow a special price for beef exports to Russia or any other country.
