Appointees to council
The president of the Auckland Niue Society, Mrs Marion McQuoid, and Dr P. W. Hohepa, private secretary and adviser to the Minister of Maori Affairs (Mr Rata), are among eight new appointees to the Social Development Council announced recently by the Minister of Social Welfare (Mr King). Three of the new members of the council are women — Mrs McQuoid; Dr Margaret Smith, president of the Christchurch branch of the National Council of Women; and Major Thelma Smith, of the Salvation Army headquarters in Wellington. The other new appointments to the council are Professor J. H. Robb, head of the department of sociology and social work at Victoria University; Dr S. W. P. Mirams, director of the mental health division of the Department of Health; Mr T, S. Pyce, director of Community Volunteers; and Mr B. V. J. Galvin, Assistant Secretary to the Treasury. The- total membership of the council is now 18. The other members are Dr J. L. Robson (chairman), Mrs Barbara Calvert (Dunedin), Mr M. W. Hancock (Palmerston North), Dr R. O. H. Irvine (Dunedin), Mr J. M. McEwen (Wellington), Mr J. J. O’Dea (Dunedin), Father D. P. O’Neill (Mosgiel), Mr C. A. Oram (Wellington), the Rev. A. D. Robertson (Auckland), and Mr R. C. Te Punga (Wellington).
