Situation: A ridge of high pressure extending from the North Tasman Sea across central New Zealand is moving slowly north-east; a northwest airstream is spreading on to the south-west of the South Island. Forecast: Canterbury, Kaikoura Coast: Light or moderate northerlies; a few showers developing about the Alps and increasing high cloud, but mainly fine; moderate or mild temperatures locally this afternoon.
