Helicopter patrol at Ascot

Scotland Yard threw a security screen around Ascot yesterday, guarding the Queen against any new assault on the lines of the bomb attack against the Houses of Parliament. Helicopters patrolled low across the racetrack and policewomen in high fashion garb mingled with society ladies strolling the Royal enclosure near the Queen. Other officers kept binoculars focussed on the crowd as the Queen took her traditional horse-and-carriage ride along the racecourse.
Thousands of commuters arrived at work late yester day morning after Liverpool Street Station was cleared because of a bomb scare Nothing was found.
It is unofficially estimated that the blast at the House of Commons caused over $400,000 worth of damage
The Home Secretary (Mr Roy Jenkins) turned down a request from a Conservative member of Parliament tor restoration of the death sentence “for persons convicted of murder or attempted murder in Britain while acting as a member of the I.R.A. or other terrorist organisation " The request was made m a written Parliamentary question.
