Indecency charges
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 17. A Navy court-martial has sentenced a warrant officer in H.M.N.Z.S. Philomel to dismissal. The court-martial found him guilty on two charges—indecent behaviour and indecent assault. He pleaded not guilty to a total of five charges, three of indecent behaviour and two of indecent assault, involving four ratings.
The names of the accused and all witnesses were suppressed by the court-martial, which sat in H.M.N.Z.S. Ngapona.
The sentence is subject to confirmation by the Chief of Naval Staff.
This Toyota mini-bus was presented to the Intellectually Handicapped Children’s Society last evening by the 14 Rotary Clubs in the Christchurch area.
The registration papers and keys were handed over to Mr M. W. Burbery, president of the Canterbury branch of the Intellectually Handicapped Society by the president of the Lyttelton Rotary Club (Mr F. Sutton). The Lyttelton Rotary Club organised the appeal. The bus can carry 12 children and is fitted with two special infant seats. Work at the society’s special care centre at Avonside has been hampered because of lack of transport They now have three mini-buses and another one will be bought soon.
