(N.Z. Frets Association) WELLINGTON,. June 17. Five castaways, stranded on Raoul Island for nearly a week after their sloop, the 30ft Moeroa, was wrecked while unattended at anchor, arrived at Wellington in the freighter Lorena. They had only the clothes they were wearing and a few bundles of possessions retrieved from the beach.

They were the owner; Mr G. Treadgold, aged 21, Mr G. J. Comall, aged 24. Mr J. Williams, aged 23, Miss S, K. Reid, aged 21, and Miss D. Lee, aged 19, all of Auckland.

Mr Treadgold said that he had spent the last four years building the yacht for cruising in the Pacific. She was not insured.

The party lost thousands of dollars worth of clothing and equipment including cameras, tape-recorders, and binoculars.
