Matter over mind
CN.Z. Press Assn — Copyright) LONDON, June 17.
Roughage in your diet may make your mind run smoothly, according to the British Medical Journal.
If that supposition is right, the day may even come when neurotic patients are prescribed “miller’s bran” rather than tranquilisers to calm their troubled minds, the report says.
There is, the journal says, an “intriguing” possibility that a full bowel “may have a euphoric or sedative effect.”
The possibility comes from the fact that a diet full of roughage is being put forward as one of the best treatments for “irritable bowel syndrome” — itself a neurotic ailment.
