Canopic brings light West Indies cargo
Few conventional merchant vessels have done more to build Xew Zealand's meat export trade than Shaw SaVill and Albion's 10,905-ton Canopic. The New Zealand-West Indies trade, on which the 19-year-old Canopic is engaged, is all in New Zealand’s favour. Her total West Indies cargo for this country yesterday amounted to a mere 140 ton-, of which 30 tons was lor.Lyttelton. This is quite usual. The cargo consisted of casks of rum, and cartons of grapefruit juice and lime juice. At Lyttelton the Canopic will load 478 tons (meat and cheese) and some general cargo, by the time she has completed New Zealand coastal loading she should have a full cargo for the West Indies. Another New Zealand merchant vessel has been disposed of — the Anchor Shipping and Foundry Company's 2a-year-old, 1248-ton. twin screw Puriri, built by Henry Robb, Ltd. of Leith. Until paid off in April she
served the Nelson-Onehunga trade. She has been sold to the Matdive Shipping Company, of the Maidive Islands in the Indian Ocean. She will be replaced in these waters by the 12 year-old 1020-ton Pukeko. built originally for the Richardson Company by James Lamont and Company, Ltd. of Port Glasgow. Today she is owned by the Union Steam Ship Company. ARRIVALS Rangatira 16.37 a.ml. 9387, Capt. 11. E. Pugh-Williams, Wellington (L'.S.S.i. Speybank i 6.50 a.m.', 8631. Capt. W. Ellerby.
