The Opposition, which plays at the Bush Inn, has been joined by a new bass guitarist—Lyali Barron, from Invercargill.
Luther Grosvenor, formerly of Spooky Tooth and Stealers Wheel, has joined the popular English band, Mott the Hoople. To celebrate, Luther has given himself what must be the best new name of the year — Aerial Bender.
Brian Auger, who once recorded with Julie Driscoll and the Trinity, has just made a very successful tour of American clubs with his band, the Oblivion Express.
John McLaughlin is to revive the Mahavishnu Orchestra with 10 new musicians including Jean-
Lue Ponty, the French jazz violinist, Ralph Armstrong. a former Motown session guitarist, and the drummer, Michael Walden. John McLaughlin will release “Apocalypse” soon.
The Iguana Nitespot opened last Saturday. Butler, Fairclough, Gretel and Sentry played on the opening night, setting a very high standard of music which the manager, Mr Robert Hand, intends to continue. "We hope to get some bands from the North Island,” said Mr Hand, “including Quincy Conserve, Cricklewood and Mammal.” Iguana would be featuring mainly hard Rock bands but other less orthodox bands would be given a chance if they could prove they were popular.
