Farmers plagued
South Australia faces its worst insect plagues and crop damage for 30 years, according to the State Department of Agriculture. Rain and floods have already cost millions of dollars in loss of stock and property, roads and services, and senior researchers say that worse may come during the next eight months with rust in cereal crops, an explosion of livestock parasites and insect life, and bush-fires when the rank weed growth dries.—Adelaide, May 22.
