POWER SAVED

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 21. Last week's electricity consumption was 13 per cent below the total basic allocation, said the general manager of the Electricity Department (Mr P. W. Blakeley).

“This very substantial margin above the required 5 per cent was helped to some extent by the warmer than average weather,” he said. “But the bulk of savings arose from supply authorities’ efforts and the undoubtedly considerable co-operation from consumers themselves. “This consumer cooperation is heartening to both the department and the supply authorities.”

Lake Taupo has fallen an inch to 1172.15 ft, and is now 2in above its nominal minimum storage level. The country’s hydro storage is 57.6 per cent full, a slight fall compared with last week’s figure of 58 per cent.
