Boote may race in U.S.
The 19 • year - old Christchurch motorcycle road racer, J. Boote. is seriously considering taking his 180 miles-an-hour TZ7SO Yamaha to the United States in July for the remaining rounds of the A.M.A. championship series. Negotiations for him to ride in America under the sponsorship of Levi Strauss are at an advanced stage. Now in Australia, Boote has ‘been racing as a member of ithe joint Levi’s and Grace: Brothers’ team.
In spite of a mechanical fault, he was fourth in the opening round of the Australian unlimited grand prix 'series at Bathurst and has : since gained three second places in races at Brisbane. 1 Another Christchurch rider,
D. Wylie, is already in America. Before he leaves for the big-money events in America, Boote has several commitments nearer home. Next
month he is to race in the Indonesian grand prix at Djakarta and afterwards will move on to another major international race at Kualar Lumpur. It was at Kualar Lumpur i
earlier this year that Boote won his first overseas event, the Malaysian grand prix.
There is also a possibility that he will fly back to Christchurch within the next few days to defend his “King of Ruapuna” title at Ruapuna Park on Sunday. His sponsors are expected to make a decision today regarding this venture. If he does return, he will receive some rather unexpected opposition from the national senior and junior grand prix champion, S. Avant, who is expected to be riding his new liquidcooled, three-cylinder Suzuki 750 for .the first time in ! competition. i Avant, who was also to I have ridden in Indonesia, jhas now decided to miss the event because of difficulties obtaining details about it. He will now probably make his South-East Asian racing ! debut when the circuit resumes there in September,
