Surplus of cargo

The Coastal Trader has not been able to accommodate all the cargo ottered for her voyage to Auckland today, the first time she has been full on the run after 11 weeks service. This might indicate much stronger support hy Canterbury' merchants although a spokesman for the Railways Department said yesterday that no Cook Strait freight was being accepted at present.
The Cook Strait service is cheaper hut the Coastal Trader has the advantage of serving Lyttelton directly, and it Is honed local merchants will make good use of the splendid replacement for the Wanaka
