Health service crisis claim
(N Z P .4 -Keuter—Copyright) LONDON, May 21.
Britain’s health service has reached crisis point and will break down completely unless more funds are injected, the Government has been told.
Dr Derek Stevenson, the Secretary of the British Medical Association, said yesterday: “There is crying need for a comprehensive public inquiry into the financing of the National Health Service.”
Dr Stevenson’s warning to the Government coincided with a threat of strike action by Britain’s underpaid hospital nurses. He is due to see the Minister of Social Services (Mrs Barbara Castle) later this week to press for better pay for doctors.
