Expansion of factory
The insulation output Capacity of the Christchurch factory of New Zealand Fibre Glass. Ltd. has been increased by almost half with the completion of expansions costing $200,000. The company's factory at Hornby will now be able to supply’all the South Island’s needs’ and most of the demand in the lower half of the North Island. It will also be able to supply export markets previously supplied from Auckland. The Christchurch expansion included the installation of a new process of forming the glass fibres, using a unit known as a fiberiser.
The manager of the company (Mr D. J. Wilson) said that’ the firm now had factories of comparable size in the North and South Islands. Both were producing fibreI glass from local raw mati erials — particularly sand and limestone from ’ Mount Somers and dolomite from Golden Bay.
The New Zealand Fibre Glass company is a member of the Alex Harvey Industries group.
