Sub-unions squad
A training squad of 26 players has been named by the Canterbury Sub-unions Rugby selector (Mr J. M. Le Lievre), and from it will be drawn the team for the Subunions first match of the season — against Canterbury Maoris at Rangiora tomorrow.
The team will be built around the players who gave Sub-unions an unbeaten record last winter, although two notable absentees from the list are O. D. Bruce, who is in Australia with the All Blacks, and the full-back, N. Dykes, who is also in Australia on a private trip. Sub-unions will again field a powerful forward pack, headed by two former All Blacks — A. J. Wyllie and H. H. Macdonald. The squad is:— Backs: R. Grant (Rangiora), J. McAuliffe (Cheviot), J. Taylor (Lincoln). C. Rhodes (Leeston), A. Fraser (Rangiora), J. Clark (Southbridge), D. Palmer (Waikari), P. Curnow (Rangiora), G. Taylor (West Melton), B. Cavuilati (Burnham Camp), G. Ormandy (Waiau), K. Foster (Waikari). Forwards: B. A. Thompson (Oxford), J. Stubbs (Oxford), M. C. Ryan (Lincoln), H. Taylor (Oxford), B. Higginson (Amberley), H. H. Macdonald (Oxford), R. Kerr (Lincoln), A. J. Wyllie (Glenmark), G. B. Henderson (Amberley), B. Henderson (Leeston), W. Lee (Oxford), R. Waghorn (Banks Peninsula), R. Rendel (Waikari), P. Gibson (Amberley).
