No finance for church

The Christchurch City Council will not provide; money to preserve the Trinity! Congregational Church at the comer of Worcester and Manchester Streets. The council decided last evening to tell the Historic Places Trust this, but to offer instead physical help in the running of an appeal to raise money for the preservation of the church. Cr P. D. Dunbar said it was tragic that such a gem of architecture could be endangered, and the State I should take more action in I such matters. I Before the council was a letter in which the trust said that it was concerned the council did not feel it was able to make any contribution to the acquisition of the building, even though it was registered in the District Scheme as a building to be preserved.
