Shopkeeper leads chase
Four youths were caught after a cross-country chase )by farmers and a shopkeeper at Conway, 30 miles south of Kaikoura, on Saturday. A 1956 Jaguar car, valued at $1250, was taken from Sun City Motors, Nelson, about 1 a.m. on Saturday. Later in’ the day four youths in a car stopped at the Conway shop for petrol and repairs and left without paying. Mr R. Gibbens, the shop-, keeper, followed them in his own car for about four miles until the pursued vehicle stopped and the youths ran off. Mr Gibbens and his dog chased the four, catching two. Local farmers caught) the other two youths. Later,) the police took the four into) custody. Three youths will appear) in the Christchurch Child-) ren’s Court and a fourth in> the Magistrate’s Court today) in connection with the inci-) dent. Two will be charged) with unlawfully taking a car.) and the others with unlaw-) fully getting into it, knowing) it was stolen. !
