Change in research committee

The Wheat Research Committee will advise the Minister of Science (Mr Moyle) that a new committee in the’terms of the Wheat Research Levy Act, which came into force on April 1. should be appointed from April 1 next year.

Mr J. A. D. Nash, repre- i senting the Department of ■ Scientific and Industrial Research on the committee, ii said that the act provided ' for the appointment of ail smaller committee, but it;< also enabled the existing!’ committee to remain on 1 until a new committee was i appointed. The present committee. had been appointed on April I last year for three years.' The alternatives open to the; Minister were to appoint a• new committee forthwith, allow the term of the) present committee to runl out before taking action, otj to appoint a new committee > from April I next year. Mr Nash said he regarded the latter course as a logical one. The act had been; passed and had come into! force, and he did not think i it good administration to | allow the matter to “string! out.” Mr Moyle would welcome

the committee s views, he said. Moving that the change be made next year, Mr W. McCutcheon said that he • knew of two representatives lof the baking industry who i would resign before that 'time.
