Prices for Herefords

Record prices were paid for eows and heifers at a dispersal sale of horned Hereford cattle held on account of L. J. Williams, of Fernside, Ranglora The top price of $6OOO for a cow was a record for the breed, and the average of $3056 for 22 female cattle of all ages, was also a New Zealand Hereford record. The stud, which for some years has gained top prices at the annual South Island Hereford sale, drew buyers from Auckland to Invercargill. Eleven in-calf cows returned an average of $4386, with a top price of $6000; five in-calf heifers average $1458, the top price of $3000; and six heifer calves average $458. the top price being $2OOO. The stud sire fetched soooo, end six rising two-year-old bulls ranged from $5OO to $3500. Sales Included:— Cows: 1 at S5OOO (Beachcroft Stud Southbridge); 1 at S4SCO (b.
