Open-cast contract

GREYMOUTH, May 14.
The Mines Department has called tenders for the removal of 318,930 cubic yards of overburden in the Island block open-cast mine at Reefton. This will make available 90,000 tons of coal. The District Manager of Mines at Greymouth (Mr J. W. Lundon) said yesterday that 100,000 tons of coal were already exposed in the area.
