Rugby rivals now joggers

Two men who opposed each other in one of the most dramatic Ranfuriy Shield Rugby games, Messrs Denis Young and Colin Currie, met again in Christchurch yesterday. They were the rival hookers in the famous shield match of 1960 when Auckland beat Canterbury, 19>-18, with a converted try in the last seconds of play. The winning try was scored by W. J. Nathan from a kick by M. A. Herewini, after Mr Currie had achieved the impossible by taking a tight head from Mr Young in a scrum near the Canterbury line.

Mr Currie, who hooked for Wellington as well as Auckland, was transferred to Christchurch by his firm in January this year. He is the driving force behind the formation of the Bumside Jogters Club.

Mr Young hopes to be able to join his former Rugby rival in the club’s first run on May 19.
