Interest in Greengrass
Several inquiries were made about the Canterbury and New Zealand forward, J. Greengrass, after his outstanding performance for the I province against New South (Wales Country on Sunday.
I The queries were made by club officials travelling as supporters in the 45-strong Country party, and it would not be surprising if Greengrass received approaches of a more direct nature before the Australian signing-on dead-line is reached on June 30.
Greengrass’s fine display must also' have impressed the three New Zealand selectors at the game. A regular member of New Zealand teams since the 1970 World Cup, Greengrass, aged 26, was not available for the cup tournament in France two years ago. But the excellent form he has shown in the last few weeks should ensure him of a return to international football.
Exceptionally fast for a man of his size, Greengrass earned a fine reputation — and drew semi-professional offers from at least one British club — as a coverdefender in Britain and France in 1971.
