KANE IN N.Z. SIDE
(N.Z P.A. StafJ Correspondent) PERTH. The Waikato centre, G. N. Kane, has been included in the New Zealand Rugby team to play Victoria in Melbourne tomorrow. Kane, who has not yet played for the All Blacks, withdrew from the team which played Western Australia when he suffered a slight muscle injury at training on Saturday. Kane has not trained since, but the coach (Mr J. J. Stewart) said that Kane should be all right to play tonight. The team to play the Victorians announced by the manager (Mr L. A. Byers) is:J. F. Karam; J. S. McLachlan, Kane, G. B. Batty; J. E. Morgan, D. J, Robertson; B. M. Gemmell; A. R. Leslie (captain); K. W. Stewart, I. A. Kirkpatrick; P. J. Whiting, L. G. Knight; A. J. Gardiner, R. W. Norton, K. J. Tanner. Reserves: I. N. Stevens, O. D. Bruce, I. A. Hurst, G. E. Crossman, W. K. Bush, J. A. Callesen. The team’s departure from Perth yesterday was delayed by two hours because of the late arrival of their aircraft at Perth. The team arrived in Melbourne at 9.30 p.m. (N.Z. time).
Motor-racing.—Leading from start to finish, J; Ickx (Belgium) and J.-P. Jarier (France) won the lOOOkms of Francorchamps sports car race in a Matra Simca, completing the 71 laps at an average speed of 238.449 k.p.h. Second were D. Bell and M. Hailwood (Britain) in a Miracle Gulf Ford GR7 on the same lap, from H. Mueller (Switzerland) and G. Van Lennep (the Netherlands), in a Porsche Turbo, six laps behind.
