Allsop, who was' in his early fifties, was one of racing’s most popular characters. Allsop began training in 1947 and held a No. 1 licence at the time of his death. He won big races with High I.aw (1952 Epsom'. Connaught (1954 Epsom), and Beaupa (1955 Metropolitan).
