Furniture show
Thirty-five furniture manufacturers have taken 20,000 square feet of the Christchurch Town Hall to display their products at the 1974 Canterbury furniture show, one of the largest of its kind in New Zealand.
The photograph (left) shows Miss Dorenda Britten. of Papua New Guinea, in a $430 lounge chair exhibited by Mobilia Interiors, Ltd. of Christchurch. The chair is fitted with stereo speakers and controls. The show, which is mainly a trade exhibition, will be seen by nearly 400 retailers from around the country. It will be open to public tomorrow and on Thursday. Many of the exhibitors use the show, which is now in its fifth year, to display new designs and ideas in kitchen, bedroom, and lounge furniture and drapes. The show, run by the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association, is being held for the first time in one venue. It occupies most of the foyer, the auditorium, the conference room, and upstairs promenade at the Town Hall. Retailers will vote on the best exhibition in four sections, and the Minister of Railways (Mr McGuigan) will present prizes tonight.
