Departure sought
Three landowners in Halswell have asked the Paparua County Council to allow them to turn over their rural holdings to residential development.
The owners, Mr W. A. Gray, Mr K. A. Bailey and Dr H. G. Crofts, applied to the council’s town planning committee for a specified departure from the district scheme.
The three applicants were represented jointly by Mr G. H. Gould, who said that the properties adjoined each other and altogether amounted to more than 51 acres.
The land fronts on to Hendersons Road and Sparks Road and already has sewerage services available and high pressure water not far away.
Mr Gray applied for the specified departure for about 15 acres, Mr Bailey for about 10 acres and Dr Crofts for about 26 acres.
The Canterbury Regional Planning Authority was the only objector. The grounds were that the land is very fertile and provides some of the best dairy grazing in the Christchurch district, and the application opposed the district scheme.
