Mayor supports flood claims
Christchurch flood victims whose insurance claims have been refused by the Earthquake and War Damage Commission will have the support of the .Mayor (.Mr N. G. Pickering).
I Some residents with flood; damage had been refused any; claim by the commission's; assessors (Mr Pickering) said; ■ yesterday. He will take up the’ matter With the Minister in charge of the commission (Mr ! Fraser). “The reason advanced is, that they did not have a com-1 prehensive policy.” Mr i Pickering said. The residents involved were also told that claims for damaged carpets would be accepted only if the carpets were glued to rhe floor The carpet then became a part of th<> house, and the insurance policy on the house covered the claim. Mr Pickering said he vas ■ very concerned that residents should be denied claims over legal niceties. “If there is ananomalv in the act it needs airing." He iaid the earthmiake and I war damages insurance had
been levied on all property owners, and extended to’ major calamities. “Claims for. flood damage should be met without any legal quibbling' by the assessors.” said Mr Pickering. •
