Winter swimming plans

A new concept will be introduced into the carnivals run by the Canterbury Swimming Centre this winter. Four will be held, on April (27, May 25, June 15 and June 129. The first two will be on I a post-entry basis and the third will comprise relays. The final carnival will be on a points-scoring 'system similar to that used a', the Coca-Cola international meeting in Leeds recently, in which a New Zealand team finished second. There will be six agegroups: nine. 10/11, 12, 13, 14-15 years. The nine-year-old group will swim freestyle and backstroke events, and the 10-year-old

group breaststroke and butterfly. the strokes alternating through the groups. Before the start of the ca'nival each club will nominate a boy and girl in each age group giving a team of 12 (swimmers, each competing in two events. They will score (points for their club depending on their placings. Post entries will- be taken at this (carnival.

Emphasis will be placed on short events, with no races more than 200 metres.
