R. Laver, (Australia) beat B. Borg (Sweden), 7-6, 6-2 in the final of the $50,000 River Oak tennis tournament in Houston.

In Haifa, Israel, R. Rheinberger (Australia) and Miss J. Connor (New Zealand) took the singles titles in the annual spring invitation tennis tournament.

Rheinberger, who now lives in Spain, scored a 6-3, 6-7, 7-2 victory over L. Tomlinson (United States) in a match that lasted two hours and a half, and Miss Connor, aged 20, from Auckland, defeated a 16-year-old Australian, Miss D. Eastburn, 6-3, 7-5 in the women’s final. In St Petersburg, Florida, Miss C. Evert overwhelmed Miss K. Melville (Australia) 6-0, 6-1 to take a $lO,OOO winner’s prize in a women’s professional tennis tournament. In the doubles final, Miss B. Stove (Netherlands) and Miss O. Morozova (Russia) beat Miss Evert and Miss E. Goolagong (Australia), 6-4, 6-2.

Scores in Davis Cup matches were:—Finland beat Turkey, 5-0 (now meets the Netherlands); Belgium beat Greece, 5-0; Egypt beat Bulgaria, 3-1 (reverse singles only remain; later meet England).
