PRICE OF BEEF

The chairman of the Meat Board, Mr C. Hilgendorf, is concerned that the wrong interpretation may be given to some remarks he made recently about the export beef market.

His remarks were reported in a Press Association message from Palmerston North on April 3. Mr Hilgendorf said he had said that it was not a matter of if the price of beef would recover again but when.

But he said at the week-end he did not know when the price would rise. "If I did I would be able to make so much money that I would not be sitting' here in the rain but would be in the south of France,” he said from his home at Sherwood in Mid-Canterbury.
