Social Security

Sir, —When the Labour Government took office, it thought it could do better and it scrapped the report of the Royal Commission on Social Security, written after months of sittings. I understand the Commission’s report did make a recommendation for assistance to dis-; abied people who have to live! solely on their age benefit.; but the present Government; has given these people no consideration. I tried twice to get supplementary assistance, but because I had a little cash in my bank accoun. (not enough to pay the small mortgage off my house), I was told that I was not eligible as I had too much cash.—Yours, etc.. DISABLED. April 15. 1974.
