A journalist for 60 years
(From Our Own Reporter)
GREYMOUTH,
March 31.
A journalistic career which began on “The Press” in 1911 ended at the week-end with the retirement of Mr L. W. Guiney from the Greymduth office staff.
With the exception of three years when he worked in the hotel trade, Mr Guiney has been in daily journalism for 60 years. After "The Press,” he worked on the now defunct “Timaru Post,” the “Christchurch Star,” and for 25 years was sports editor of the “New Zealand Herald” in Auckland. He then went to the West Coast to enter the hotel trade, being licensee of the Paroa and Chateau Moana hotels before returning to journalism with “The Press,” in Greymouth. He succeeded Mr J. A. Mclnroe as the district representative about 18 years ago.
Mr Guiney was guest at an informal function on Friday
evening of Greymouth journalists, on whose behalf a presentation was made by Mr F. A. Neate.
