EIGHT DIE IN FIRE
(N.Z Press Assn—Copyright) ALLENTOWN (Pennsylvania)
March 24.
Eight persons died and 12 others were injured, seven critically, last night when a man who had been ejected apparently threw a firebomb into a bar.
A policeman and a fireman were also among the injured. Three residents escaped from second and third-storey apartments, above the bar. The police say they are investigating reports that one of the bar’s patrons, who was ejected for fighting, bought five gallons of petrol at a nearby service station, threw a container through the front door of the bar, and ignited the fuel.
A 24-year-old man surrendered to the police 45 minutes after the fire. The dead and injured were trapped when, with the front exit blocked by flames, they tried to flee through a back door that had been bolted.
Fatal streak A 29-year-old man attending a party in Johannesburg collapsed and died after streaking naked around the block for a bet.—Johannesburg. March 22.
