Harlequins beaten

(N Z PA-Reuter—Copyright} LONDON.

Ponsonby began the British part of its European tour by comfortably beating Harlequins, 16-6, at the Stoop ground, Twickenham. Fielding all six of its All Blacks, it led 10-0 at half time, and won by one goal, two penalty goals, and one try to one goal. Although it had the encouragement of a try after six minutes by its 21-year-old Samoan international wing, J. Moa, the Auckland club side was frequently upset by Harlequins’ forward technique.

When the halves let the ball out, Ponsonby looked dangerous, especially the left wing, T. Morrison, and the centre, B. G. Williams. Morrison scored an exciting try, crashing through three tackles in a 50-yard run, The full-back, J. Whiu, kicked two penalties and landed one conversion. R. Hammond went over for Harlequins’ only try and W. Bushell converted.

Yachting.—The champion, M. Paterson (Auckland) retained his national Q Class yachting title bv a 1.1-point margin in a fourrace series in Tauranga at the week-end.
