Nurses’ duties
Sir, —By what criteria are the dental nurses making their salary claim in relation to the salaries of public health nurses? A dental nurse undergoes a two-year training programme for a special ised service. The public health nurse, on the other hand, has three years of basic training followed by an orientation course. Should she be based in a country area she is also required to have mid-wifery and ?lunket certificates. She is required to cover a wide area of medical service and her work in schools is but one facet of her work. In the country, a nurse is on call where there is no resident doctor and has to attend emergencies at short notice. I think these facts speak for themselves. There are two sides to every problem.—Yours etc., EX n UBLIC HEALTH NURSE. March 8, 1974.
