Doncaster hopes
N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) SYDNEY.
Two former New Zealand mares with their sights set on the SlOO.OOO Doncaster Handicap at Easter fought out a stirring finish to the Apollo Stakes at Randwick on Saturday. Misty Ville (Oakville—Aberdonian) just lasted to hold off the fast-finishing Princess Eulogy (Hasty Cloud—Lady Eulogy) by a neck, with Lord Ben a short head away, third. S. Brown said after the race that he was pleased with Prin cess Eulogy’s run as a trial for the Doncaster Handicap, especially as she had been cheeked in the closing stages. There was consolation for Brown in the next race when the "cripple.” Hard Lad (Harleigh— Honette), finished on strongly to win the University Handicap. j Hard Lad suffers badly with arthritis In the forelegs, and his was his last race. The only other New Zealandbreds placed at Randwick on Saturday were Bankruptcy (Mellay— Present Again), which was second in the Kingsford Quality Handicap, and Rangoon (Sobic —Fairleigh) and Glendaurel (Gold Sovereign—Fairylike), which were second and third in the Edgecliff Welter.
