M. Trembath holds title

(N.Z. Press Association) WANGANUI. M. Trembath, of Canterbury, retained his New Zealand long distance swimming championship title for a third successive year with a convincing victory at Lake Wiritoa on Saturday. Trembath eventually won by 6.ssec from R. Callen (Eastern Districts-South Island). The women’s title was won by C. Ross (Eastern Districts), with a time of 59min 33.75ec.

She beat T. Grooby (Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay) by 22sec, and also emerged as winner of the Annette Kellerman Cup for the handicap section.

Entries were again disappointing, with only five starters in the men’s event and three in the women’s section.

M. Evans (Wellington), a prominent surf swimmer, was a late scratching.
