AUCKLAND, March 10. Ten young men will appear in the Otahuhu Magistrate’s Court tomorrow morning after an incident at Wiri early on Saturday morning in which a police inspector and a sergeant were injured.
They will be charged with offences ranging from injuring with intent to the possession of offensive weapons. About 1 a.m., during a clash between a party of policemen and a group of motor-cyclists and their associates in Druges Road, Wiri, Inspector R. J. Joyce was hit in the face with a flying bottle and Sergeant R.
A. Barrett was struck in the face with a broken bottle.
Both police officers required medical treatment. Six knives, two chains, an iron bar, and pieces of wood were seized by the police. Three .22 rifles and a .22 gas-operated pistol were found in the house, but they were not used in the fighting, the police said.
