The 20 per cent wage rise sought by public servants; was irresponsible and mis-’ leading, said the president of Federated Farmers (Mr W. N. Dunlop) in a statement. The 1972 Royal commission of inquiry had said the evidence was clear that State employees were in a position of pay leadership. "When farm prices were disastrously low, we saw no evidence of the willingness of the PSA. to share in similar reductions in income. While farm incomes were going down, public service salaries were rising rapidly,” Mr Dunlop said.
