At the close of the third day they were 394 for three, only two runs away from taking the lead, and Rowe was 202 not out, having batted for more than seven hours.

Ro-we, aged 25, who had; never before scored a century i outside his native Jamaica.; gave a flawless display of aggressive batting, reaching 100 after 208 minutes. 150 J after 302 minutes, and 200 after 417 minutes. The temperature hovered in the eighties until late in the final session but the little Jamaican kept going with unfailing determination; his concentration never faltered. Rowe’s second - wicket

! stand of 249 in 252 minutes with Kallicharran was a rei cord for the West Indies i against England and provided I the main entertainment of the day. The pair came together after R. C. Fredericks was (out midway through the morning session and were parted in the final hour. A. W. Greig dismissed both Fredericks and Kallicharran. and also had C. H. Lloyd caught in the gully just before the close. He finished with three for 87 off 26 overs. So, at least England also had a hero on a memorable day.
