Australia closes on firm note
Share prices ended the week on a higher note on Australian stock markets, under sustained buying support, centred mainly on gold stocks.
Central Norseman rose 20c to 195 c while Emperor improved 5c at 240 c. PekoWallsend traded steadily, while Poseidon gained further ground with a 44c rise to 804 c,
In the oils, WoodsideBurmah recouped part of Thursday’s loss, while Weeks edged 5c up to 110 c and A.A.R. and International had marginal gains. The banks performed well, and the breweries, despite fears of more industrial trouble and threat of a shortage of beer, moved higher. B.H.P. closed off the top at 894 c, a 14c net gain for the day, and T.N.T. gained 3c at 178 c.
