New opera for Aldeburgh

"The Voice of Ariadne”, a new opera by Thea Musgrave based on Henry James’s story “The Last of the Valerii”, is to have its world premiere, conducted by the composer, at this year’s Aldeburgh Festival (June 7 to 25). Commissioned for the English Opera Group, the work is a chamber opera for eight soloists, no chorus, and an orchestra of 13 musicians.

After the premiere in the Jubilee Hall, Aldeburgh, on June 11, further performances are scheduled for the English Opera Group’s autumn season in London. On the Suffolk coast 100 miles north-east of London. Aldeburgh is the home of the British composer Benjamin Britten, founder of the annual festival.
